Problem and Proposed Solution
The specific objective of this work will be to use chemical sensors combined with multiphoton electron extraction spectroscopy (MEES) in a platform that will consist of two independent sensing mechanisms:
- By chemical sensing
- By spectroscopy
- Both will take measurements from the same sample simultaneously and will provide a redundancy in response for positive explosive identification
- By the system, TATP, HMTD and conventional explosives will be reliably detected
- By the accomplishment of the project we will generate new knowledge and technology in counter-terrorism
- By generating new detection technologies against the terrorist threat for explosive devices and other illicit activities
