Spring school in Piamonte region, with collaboration of Nanogentools, Solution and Nanocommons EU Projects. The workshop is named: "Applications and Safety Assessment of Nanomaterials: NEW TECHNOLOGICAL APPROACHES AND REGULATORY ASPECTS". 3-day meeting which will include keynotes and presentations by international experts in the nanomaterials field and organisms.
Industrial producers of nanomaterials, expert service providers, end-users, policy makers and regulators met at NIA’s 8th Annual Symposium, for a day of presentations, discussion and networking. Approximately 50 delegates attended and NIA was pleased to introduce the 'Projects Corner', where more than 20 innovation and safety projects within the nano community were represented. NANOGENTOOLS Autumn EU School “Advanced Training in understanding the Safety of Nanomaterials” has as a main objective to create a creative and intergenerational forum to discuss the development of nanoscience and its implications on human and environmental health.
Event celebrated on May 30th 2017 with the aim discussing current regional interest in nanotechnologies, developing possible themes and dates for future ‘nano’ events and examining specific areas of interest such as nano-safety.
A workshop that allows knowledge exchange between various SbD projects as well as listening and learning from different stakeholder groups (industry, academia, regulators, insurance, consumers) can help adjusting research, dissemination and exploitation strategies accordingly.

The launch of the Horizon 2020 European project took place on 28 and 29th January 2016 with the Kick off Meeting celebrated in Burgos and organized by the coordinator of the Project, ICCRAM-Universidad de Burgos.
The meeting was attended by representatives of all the institutions involved in the NANOGENTOOLS project, all of them key elements in the development of nanosecurity in Europe: ICCRAM-Universidad de Burgos, University of Birmingham (UK), University of Piemonte Orientale (Italy), specialized international networks in nanotechnology as Bionanonet (Austria), Nanotechnology Industry Association-NIA (Belgium) and manufacturing companies as SITEX 45 SRL (Romania), Research And Development Of Carbon Nanotubes, S.A. NANOTHINX (Greece) and NOVAMECHANICS Limited (Cyprus).
PhD Santiago Cuesta, coordinator of this Project, led the organizational session of the NANOGENTOOLS project, that will run for four years and will allow to send researchers to partner institutions with a total duration of 31 months and to receive visitors, both business and researchers, for 29 months. Some of the most important actions that will be launched in the coming months will be International Summer/Winter schools, Seminars, Workshops and Conferences. The final target of these actions is to share ideas and knowledge from the research world to the business sector fostering science advance and innovation development. Specifically NANOGENTOOLS project is focused on developing new methodologies for the identification and control of the risks associated with nanomaterials, ensuring consumers and Society safety.
NANOGENTOOLS addressess the challenge of identifying and controlling the hazards associated with Nanomaterials (NMs) by joining industry and academia to create a collaborative excellence-based knowledge exchange network in the MSCA – RISE framework, that will: i) push forward knowledge via method development and pre-validation, ii) train scientists in new methodologies to assess long term nanosafety, and iii) support the inclusion of methods developed in standardization and present and future EU regulations.
NANOGENTOOLS combines genomics (toxicogenomics), proteomics and multidisciplinary science (biophysics, molecular modeling, chemistry, bioinformatics, chemoinformatics) to develop fast in vitro high throughput (HTS) assays, with molecular based computational models for better understanding of the molecular fundamentals of nanotoxicity, and will initiate the development of nanosafety tests for industrial use during product development.
