S. Cuesta coordinates the Regional activity and the participation of ICCRAM as Task partner within the EIT KIC on Raw Materials. S. Cuesta is deeply involved in the activities of the EU EIP Raw Materials. In particular, he is leader of the WP1 in the EIP-Raw Materials Action Group 1.7 RESET, and WP1 within the Action Group SUBST-EXTREME in the commitment 1.8. Recently he has also joined the commitment PROMETIA.
S. Cuesta is part of EU NANOFUTURES as chairman of the Working Group on Critical Raw Materials. He is also board member of the International industrial consortium PROCOMP (administrated by ENEA-Italy). Member of the international committee ISO/AENOR CTN 73 “Nuclear energy, nuclear technologies, and radiological protection”. Liaison Officer for the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA-OECD).
Santiago coordinates two transnational excellence networks, MULTINANOMAT – focusing on “Multiscale modelling and experimental validation of new advanced materials with nanotechnological basis“; and INCRAM: “International Network in Critical Raw Materials Substitution”. In addition, the figure of Dr. S.Cuesta, is also directly linked to the Industrial Cluster CBECYL, the national platform for advanced fabrication, MANUKET, and CEIDEN.
Up to now, he has been partner, co-responsible or director for more than 30 funded projects (EU/National/Industry). He has authored/co-authored more than 100 publications and technical communications to industry. In the last ten years, Dr. S.Cuesta has been awarded with different awards, highlighting the National Prize of SNE for young researchers (2003), and the prize for ICFRM extreme Materials (Sapporo-2009). He has obtained the National “Intensification in research” mention in 2013 (I3).
