SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE /COORDINATOR
Santiago Cuesta is the Director of the International Research Center in Critical Raw Materials for Advanced Industrial Technologies. Director of the Advanced Materials, Nuclear technology and applied Nanotechnology Department. In the last ten years Dr. S.Cuesta has been awarded with the National Prize of SNE for young researchers (2003), the postdoctoral prize “Marcel- Merieux/ENS-Lyon” region Rhône-Alpes in genomics (2006), and the prize for ICFRM extreme Materials (Sapporo-2009). He has obtained the “Ramón y Cajal” grant and has been awarded in 2013 by the Spanish Ministry of Economy with the “Intensification in research” mention (I3). Area of materials engineering.
S.Cuesta coordinates the Regional activity and the participation of ICCRAM as Task partner within the EIT KIC on Raw Materials. S. Cuesta is deeply involved in the activities of the EU EIP Raw Materials. In particular, he is the official representative in 5 Action Groups (AG) – Commitments- and the coordinator of the AG RAWNANOVALUE.
S. Cuesta is part of EU NANOFUTURES steering committee as Chairman of the Working Group on Critical Raw Materials. Member of the Strategic Expert Group (SEG) for MERANET – EU-Commission – and takes part of the Management Committee of EU COST CRM_EXTREME OC-2015-1-19345. He has been Executive member of the International industrial consortium PROCOMP (administrated by ENEA-Italy). Member of the international committee ISO/AENOR CTN 73 “Nuclear energy, nuclear technologies, and radiological protection”. Liaison Officer for the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA-OECD).
Up to now, partner, co-responsible or director for more than 40 funded projects at EU-wide (FP5/6/7, H2020), National level (MINECO/MICINN – Spain, ANR – France) or under
request of private industry. He has also directed more than 15 research projects in international facilities. Presently (2016), he is responsible of 11 – H2020 projects. Only in the biennium 2015-2016, he has attracted more than 2.750.000 euros with his research lines in EU H2020 projects (3 EU projects as EU coordinator, including a FET-OPEN project) He has authored/co-authored more than 50 JCR publications and 70 technical communications to industry.
